5 Creative Ways to Use Landing Pages to Build Your Email List

By Jill Stanton Published January 21, 2020 Updated October 14, 2022

You spend your days writing killer content, but what if no one sees it?

*GASP*

It happens all the time, and you want to know why? Because you’re not doing a thing to keep them on that website of yours.

Now, I’m not going to lie, I had no idea what lead generation was when I first got started in business. I wrote content without a plan, and it took me a while to realize that I had to do more than create content.

To back up for a quick sec – if you’re not sure what a lead is, a ‘lead’ refers to a reader who is interested in what you have to offer. The idea is that you want to capture your lead by obtaining some sort of contact info from them—preferably their email address.

Now, once you’ve baited and hooked that lead, you can build a relationship, earn their trust, and turn them into cash converting customers. That is a serious tongue twister!

So, now that you know what you need to do, how do you do it? Landing pages!

Landing pages are a great way to capture leads, and I’ve got five surefire ways for you to do it, but you’re going to have to read on!

We’re going to dive in and talk about five creative ways you can use landing pages in your business. But first, what is a landing page? It’s a page designed to get your visitors to commit a specific action. This could be signing up and claiming your opt-in offer like free e-book or audio download or resource list or even signing up to an autoresponder series. Alternatively, you can use it for webinar registration, sales pages, or also to get users on a notification list. Whatever you can think of or whatever the desired action is, you can use landing pages for it.

But why are landing pages so important? Because they help to build your email list. Earlier, we talked about the importance of email lists and how the energy in your business is directly related to your email lists.

Five Positive Ways to Use Landing Pages

1. Guest Posts

A guest post is a piece of content that goes up on someone else’s website. When you do that, you get access to an ‘authored by’ box, usually below the post. Within that ‘authored by’ section, you’re allowed to put a link back to whatever page you want to go to. That’s where we put a link to our landing page.

What’s even cooler is that you can customize these landing pages. So you could use a landing page builder and customize the specific landing page to match the site you’re writing for. For example, say you’re writing for a site like Life Hacker, you could customize that landing page to say Hey Lifehackers. Then present them with an opt-in offer that’s completely aligned to either what your guest post was about. Or the general theme of that site. That way it’s targeted to their specific interests, and it ups your chances of getting them from your landing page on to your email list.

2. Social Media Bios

How many of us strategically use that one precious link within our social media bios? Not many; most of us, when we do use that, link to our homepage.

You can use it more strategically than that. You can link your social media bio to a landing page, which most people don’t do. If you do, it can have a massive effect on your email list growth.

It can help you strengthen and deepen the connections you’ve already made on social media by getting them on to your email list and sending them regular, consistent, high-quality emails.

3. External Annotations on YouTube

You can overlay links onto your YouTube video by using cards. You can point those links to any landing page you want.

All you have to do is simply link your site up to YouTube and verify as an associated website. It takes only a few clicks here and there and it’s super easy but once you do that, you will be able to link out to your own website from your YouTube videos. If you use a landing page tool or have specific domains for landing pages, you can convert the link using the WordPress plugin Pretty Links to make this a link with your site URL so YouTube will accept it. This is huge and we use it on our own videos. It’s super effective, and it’s free!

4. Facebook Page

We’re not going to be turning our Facebook page specifically into a landing page. We’re going to be creating custom Facebook tabs. If you go to our Facebook page, at the top you would see a tab called free Webinar. If you click on that it will take you to a landing page. Now this was set up very quickly using Lead Pages.

Another thing here is that if you use Facebook ads, you can send them to this custom Facebook tab and it drives down your Facebook ads cost.

5. Use Your Header Image

At the top of your website, you usually have a header image. You can create a new header image that gives details of your opt-in. So you can say something like ‘Click here to register for our upcoming webinar‘ or ‘Click here to download your list of resources.’ You can then link that header image to your opt-in page or directly to your opt-in box. Then, when people click on that header image, they will be sent to your opt-in page/box.

That’s it! Our five creative ways of leveraging landing pages in your business. Now we want to hear from you. Tell us.
