4 Real Estate Jobs and What You Need to Know About Them

By Ernest Ragsdill Published July 14, 2023

If you are into the nitty gritty of property values, selling, and marketing, then the real estate industry is the right place for you.

You can choose from various jobs in this industry based on your knack and knowledge. In most scenarios, you can choose your working hours and be your boss.

As of May 2021, there are approximately 2.18 million people who are employees of the Real Estate Industry, observing a 4.68% increase from the previous year. This can be attributed to the fact that it can be both fulfilling and financially rewarding.

However, remember that it is quite a demanding industry and involves a lot of high-value stakes. You must multi-manage your promotion, complex paper works, handle very different customers, and so on.

So, if you’re ready to take on the challenge, let’s get started!

1.Real Estate Developer

In this job, you will buy land and build real estate properties over it. It can range from a family home project to an elaborate office building.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Laying out plans.
  • Coordinating the construction project.
  • Keeping track of and managing the finances.
  • Appointing an effective team to carry out the process.

Some other professionals you have to work with include – architects, contractors, civil engineers, leasing agents, and others to carry out the functions of different aspects of the project.

To become a real estate developer, you must have a properly-recognized degree in urban planning, civil engineering, architecture, etc.

In terms of attributes that will serve you well include – good interpersonal skills, adept understanding of the market, knowledge about the economy, and the ability to multi-task, to name a few.

2. Real Estate Agent

Although very similar to a real estate broker, the difference lies in who you report to for your work. An agent has to sign with a brokerage, while a broker can do that independently.

As for your expected job role, you are to assist your clients in buying and selling a property.

You have to be aware of the market’s current trends, evaluate for the right offer windows, and guide your clients to meet their expectations. You must also list, market, and show your clients different properties to keep the work going.

You cannot hope to be recognized as a good real estate agent without proper training or certifications.

You can sign up for Australia’s best buyer’s agent course to train yourself to become one of the best in your trade!

This role is, however, not for everyone since it requires you to be a naturally good salesperson with immaculate negotiation skills.

3. Airbnb Host

To keep up with today’s trends, Airbnb hosts are the new generation of landlords! However, there are quite a few differences between the two concepts.

As a host, you will have to own and manage the property. You must orient yourself to short-time rental systems where rents are calculated nightly. Unlike a traditional landlord, your role will be much more dynamic, defined by day-to-day responsibilities.

It is quite the job because there are endless responsibilities. For instance, you must efficiently market the product on relevant platforms, keep the property ready for the next guest at all times, communicate effectively with the guests ensuring a smooth experience and adjust the rental rate as per standards.

4. Property Manager

Upon investing in a property, if a real estate investor does not want to manage the property themselves – your job as a property manager comes into play.

You will be required to look after the property’s physical and financial well-being and the tenants (if any are involved).

However, your managerial hold over the property depends on the owner’s willingness to be involved in the process.

Depending on the country, the requisites to be a recognized PM differs. Irrespective of that, you must be well-equipped in managerial skills, handling customer service, etc.

5. Real Estate Attorney

If you are interested in the legalities surrounding property dealings and disputes, then the career of a real estate attorney will do you well.

Your job role will resonate around issues with documentation, titles, and even transfer of ownership. You will be expected to step in and resolve any such rifts and settle the tension between your client and other parties.

Your role is pivotal in terms of providing your client with due guidance while making hefty payments.

To be recognized in this profession, you must have a bachelor’s degree, clear the LSAT exam as well as pass the bar exam and any other relevant degree and certifications as any other attorney. Moreover, you need specialized knowledge about the industry.

Your education process can easily last up to 6-8 years, with an additional training period of 2-3 years as a lawyer (especially in the real estate industry).

Final Thoughts

The real estate industry is promising and well-rewarding if you can pull yourself through the demands of the roles.

These are the top real estate jobs of all time. But apart from them, there are many more to choose from. However, ensure you look into the matter well enough and understand the criteria before jumping!
