Top 4 Marketing Strategies For Gym Owners & Any Service Business

By Shannon Hudson Published September 6, 2014 Updated October 2, 2022

These days obesity is a major problem around the world. And, it’s not that people are unaware of its ill effects. That’s why they are doing everything possible in their efforts to lose weight – following a strict diet, exercising, going to gyms and so on. This is what has made the gym business one of the most flourishing businesses in the whole wide world.

If you already own a gym business or are planning to do so, you need to focus on marketing else as well. Marketing is one thing without which your business will not stand a chance these days. So, that’s one area that you need to focus on.

Here’s a quick look at some of the best marketing strategies that you can follow to

#1. Be Unique!

Marketing is meant to make you stand out in a crowd. So, try to be different. Offer unique classes! This is one of the most important things that you need to focus on. You can arrange different types of classes, such as yoga, Zumba, boot camps and so on.

These one of a kind classes will have multiple benefits. On one hand, they will help you establish your gym as an out-of-the-box institution. On the other hand, it will ensure that the customers are attracted to your gym. This will also add some fun to the usual day to day gym routine. Besides, it can play a major role to ensure that the members remain enrolled in your gym, thus helping you generate more revenues.

#2. Make the First Few Visits Free

Would you like to spend money for any object when you are unsure if it is going to help you? Of course not. In fact, you would probably like to test the item first, before you buy it. The same holds true for any potential customers of your gym as well.

Many visitors of your gym would like to see and experience what you are offering before they have to sign any long term contracts. Are you prepared to successfully pitch your gym and its benefits to them? Several gyms charge exorbitant rates at the very beginning, which can be a strict no-no for you.

If possible, offer a pass for the first five visits to be free. Once they are satisfied with your services, they will surely become members at your gym. And moreover, the free offer will also lure more potential customers to try out your gym. Thus, you will have the opportunity to impress them and encourage them to become members.

#3. Encourage Members to Refer Their Friends

A member referral program is probably one of the best marketing strategies around these days. And, you can easily implement it in your gym as well. Offer your members some discount or other types of gifts to encourage them to spread the word about your gym.

But, always remember, it is important to make the process easy and simple. Otherwise, you cannot expect the members to participate in a friend referral program. In fact, a lot of members will leave the process almost immediately, even after they have covered a part of the process, if they feel as if it is too complex or hard to complete. And, the only thing to blame during such a scenario is the complexity of the process. On the other hand, a simple process will ensure that your members will refer more of their friends to your gym, which, in turn, will reflect positively in your balance sheet.

#4. Have a Properly Built Website

This is the age of digital marketing. And, you just cannot ignore the online front. You have to focus on marketing with the help of the internet. For this, you will need a well-planned website. It should be properly designed and must have excellent content, good enough to keep your visitors entertained for some time. Besides, these are extremely important, as they will play a major role in forming your first impression in the minds of your potential customers. And, it is one of the most important things in the field of marketing.

You can also use the website to promote different discounts you may be offering at your gym. It will be easier to reach a higher number of people through your website. So, you can also expect a better reflection of this on the profits of your business.
