How to Develop a Strong Social Media Presence

By Frank Vitetta Published December 19, 2014 Updated December 1, 2022

There is a completely new market growing before our very eyes. As of January 2014, 74% of online adults use social networking sites.

This is now the digital marketing era. With this in mind it is almost an absolute must that companies establish an online presence, one of the best ways to do this is through social media. A respectable and well-kept social media is a necessity if you want to have a strong online presence; here are some of the most important tips to consider when beginning developing a strong social media presence.

#1. Complete your social media profiles

Fill in the blanks on the social media sites you have chosen to be on and make sure to include as much information as possible on your profile. This includes links to your web page, arguably the most important part of the profile, and links to your other social media profiles.

Filling in and fully completing your profile helps to build trust with your customers as it gives them easy access to information about your company. When people are looking for information on a certain company they always look at social media profiles first to see if they are trustworthy as this is a platform that they trust. Social media platforms also allow other customers to comment and provide feedback, giving potential customers a clear sign of whether a company is reliable or not, before they make any commitments.

#2. Use different platforms

Choose different social media sites and make sure you have a presence on all of the most popular platforms. Whether you decide to stick with the most predominant social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, or decide to try others, it is crucial to cross promote and always link to your social media profiles whenever you post content in other locations, such as on a blog.

You want to make it as easy as possible for a customer to find you online, so it is imperative to include links back to your main page on all platforms.

#3. Be active

Make sure to post regularly and keep up with all your social media platforms, as this ensures you stay relevant in the social media market. People are constantly checking their news feeds and by posting on a regular basis you are providing potential customers with more content to read, helping make your product more memorable in their eyes.

However, do be able that there is such a thing as too much posting, this can overwhelm readers and cause them to shun you in some causes. You want to be active and relevant because too much posting can cause people to develop a negative image surrounding your company.

#5. Engage and interact

Entertainment and business has become more and more intertwined over recent years, customers will develop a more positive image of your brand if you regularly post informative, engaging content. You want to make sure that you monitor your social media pages and respond to customer’s questions and comments to further improve your image.

Encouraging your followers to interact is also a great way to promote your brand. Posting videos and encourage followers to share them and give their opinion on them will help create discussions, just make sure you recognize your audience. Your social media is about you, but it would not be what it is without your customers and followers, so it is important to let them know that you recognize that and value.

#6. Visuals, visuals, visuals!

Focus on producing shareable, visual content and promoting it across your social media platforms. Using only text can cause followers to become bored and uninterested and you do not want to lose followers because you could not keep them entertained. Visitors spend 6 times longer on pages with videos on them so it is easy to see the opportunity that video content offers.

By using videos you can attract attention to your business or product in a faster and more effective way, while retaining and gaining more customers. Give your followers something they will want to share with others, across other platforms and they will do just that, helping to promote your business greatly.

Once you have built a big enough fan base you can begin to measure performance metrics to see how they can be improved. This can be anything from measuring your fan growth, activity on your pages, engagement rate, response rate and response time. These steps and placing an importance on video content in particular is sure to help you build a strong social media presence.
