6 Things to Do When Writing Researched Business Blogs

By Eric Haskell Published September 8, 2016 Updated March 17, 2023

So you have decided to start your own blog page? Great! Business blogs are a very convenient and cost-efficient method of generating brand value, conversion, and even readership. You can use it to strengthen your social media reach, rank better on the search engine and the best part of blogging is that it is a marketing investment that gives you long-term returns. So starting with a blog is a great start for you.

A Business Blog is Different from a Personal Blog

Most people tend to get themselves mixed up between a business blog and a personal blog.  Well first of all, when you sit down to write a business blog, you don’t write everything under the sun. You focus on the topics that cover the services your business has to offer the clients. For instance, if you have a business that deals with inbound marketing then the topics that you should be writing more on are – email marketing, social media promotion, etc.

The other thing is that, when you have a business blog, you are doing it to increase the online visibility and awareness of your brand’s website. This means that every time you write you are also increasing your website’s exposure on the search engine and social media platforms.

Another important thing about business blogs is that apart from helping to drive traffic to your blog, it is also an effective strategy to making money or conversions.

Business blogs are a valuable asset and the more informative they are the most effective tools they become. Now this is where most of the business goals tend to deviate. You see not all business blogs content pay much attention to the authenticity or the background research in that sense.  Most of them appear to be in the run-off the mill pattern.

Being new to the business of blogging, it’s best if you can give blogging a healthy start because ten or twenty years from now, people are going to visit the page and you can even utilize it to generate more revenue. Here are some helpful tips that you can follow that will show you how to get started with a relevant and valuable content strategy.

How to Start a Healthy Blog Content for your Website?

As you read the following points that I am going to discuss with you now, you will realize that there are some points that you might not have come across before. That’s because it is so. What you will learn is that writing business blog content is more than just deciding on a service related topic and identifying the right target audience. Keeping this is mind, here we go –

After Deciding on the Topic …

#1. Start with the Point

In some cases, I have come across blog contents that tend to beat around to the bush. Now that is pretty annoying and as a reader, even you would not enjoy reading such a blog. The formula to writing great blogs is to be the resource that customers need. Answer the unanswered questions. Use the first paragraph to do this. There’s no other alternative to this when you are trying to grab reader interest via your blogs.

#2. Find a Story

Storytelling is a great way to start a blog. But let’s not cliché it to just narrating a story. It can be done in a number of alternative ways. For example, do you present data when you start with a blog? Now that’s Storytelling with Data. It’s a very effective medium for backing your statement, whether it is that you are presenting your readers with a crisis or a situation.

Data is powerful and can become even more powerful when you can analyze them and bring out a proper solution. New ideas give you a new story to talk about and hence, a new way to stir up the crowd with the help of a blog. Dealing with data is fun. Try this out.

#3. SEO Optimize Your Content

Remember, you are writing an SEO content that will increase the online visibility of your web page. Hence, there are certain content editorial rules that you cannot afford to leave out. For example – Always make sure that you are presenting your solution with bullet points or numbers. Why? Whether you love or loathe them, bullet points keep your readers from reading the blog till the end. In other words, they help to keep the momentum of flow that is hard to maintain for readers. However, bullet points/ numbers are just one rule. The other SEO optimizing tactics are –

  • Using Sub-heads divide your content
  • Maintaining symmetry
  • Including related keywords
  • Checking content quality
  • Testing content readability

Note – If you are not much of a pro when it comes to writing blog contents, here’s some great news for you. There are some great blogging tools and applications that can help you out with producing contents every day. Writing blogs can be very time-consuming, but with these tools and applications, maybe you can save some hours.

#4. Including Relevant Images, Graphs or Screenshots

Most of the times, a well put out statement becomes clearer when you have a relevant image, graphs or screenshots to accompany. It makes your content look compactly detailed and apart from that, texts when combined with images help to increase a blog page’s viewer retention. Not convinced? Well then here are some data treats for you.

Note – how I have used this point to present a statement and am backing it with relevant data to present you a story. Here check out these data to learn how images are an important part of viewer engagement:-

  • Articles that are accompanied with images, receive 94 percent of the total views.
  • 81 percent of the readers have a tendency to skim the content first before reading it. Images in your blog post can help the people to form the first impression in the first 50 milliseconds.
  • Images can help to cut down the number of characters per line in a post thus making it more reader friendly.

Most of these data I have referred to Inc. and Buffer Social pages, so you can check out the links later if you want to learn more about it.

#5. Present Your Content in a Structure

You can do this from the beginning or later. It depends on you.  However, do not forget that all contents must have a beginning, middle and an end. For the beginning, I have already mentioned that it’s best to get to the point straight. In this way, you can save time for both yourself and your customers.

The middle section has to do with everything related to explaining the problem, the solution, and the benefits. In case, if there are some cons that you feel you need to talk about with your readers, it too should belong to the middle section.

The end should be a wrap-up, where you can present a key takeaway. Now this is where your Call-to-Action should be. This is how your content segmentation should be.

#6. Maintain a Proper Substantial Length

There are some contents that you will find to be too lengthy and there are some that are too short. While some marketing executives will suggest you to stick to long-form content formats, what I feel is that this might not be the same especially if you are considering content marketing from a wide angle. For example, do you think people on social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter would be interested to read a lengthy 1000+ content? Would you in that case? Absolutely not.

Different business blogs, therefore, need to be curated based on where it is going to be shared. However, speaking from the general sense, if you are publishing a new post on your website that you aim to get indexed by the search engine bots or on any other renowned online magazines, then 1000+ is the ideal content length that you should be thinking about.

The Final Wrap Up

Writing business blog contents might seem as easy as a cake walk. But it is not. You will realize this when you begin to write. Let’s hope this article of mine would help you in your content marketing strategy. It’s the perfect methodology to writing well researched and quality content. Try it.
