Yes, yes, content marketing is king!  But, let’s face it, if you’re a business owner, franchisee, distributor or all around busy person, you don’t have time to focus on anything else other than getting your business going, let alone stay on top of content for an online marketing strategy!

Still, you’re constantly hearing that you need constant content on your site! Blogging can generate 7 times more traffic than a static page. So, on the one hand you can’t sit down to write and, on the other hand, you don’t want to miss this golden opportunity online. How can you fit the king’s needs in your agenda?

If outsourcing content is not an option at the time, here are a few tips to help you in some steps of the way if you’re a BUSY (not lazy) person:

# 1. Bring a Notebook with you EVERYWHERE

As far as I’m concerned, the hardest part about writing is inspiration. I seriously spend so much time just thinking about what my next posts will be about (shout out to my boss who probably gets a bit frustrated with me because of it).

What I can advice in this respect is to always be ready! Bring a notebook with you to write down ideas because you never know when a stroke of genius can strike. Maybe you’re talking with a client over the phone and s/he mentions something worth sharing or you’re talking with your partners or employees and discuss an important change going on in your industry.

Make sure you have a piece of paper and pen near you so, when the time to start writing comes, you’re not staring at a blank page waiting for the content inspiration fairy to come and wave her wand around!

# 2. Pencil it in

Once you have a notebook full of ideas, you need to sort them out! Create an editorial calendar and keep it updated. It’s as simple as opening up a spreadsheet, writing down dates, planning out how often you’ll be putting up new content on your site and what topic you will blog about in what date.

This way, you’ll stay on top of when was the last time you posted content, what you blogged about and what’s coming up next. You can create an editorial calendar for months to come and get rid of the stress that comes with a disorganized content strategy!

# 3. Set an Alarm

I get it, it’s easy to forget what you’re supposed to do if it’s not a priority at the moment: out of sight, out of mind. What you need to do for content is, once you have your editorial calendar, set an alarm to keep you on the right track.

For example, if you’re planning to publish new content twice a month (which is an easy and doable goal), it’s a good idea to set a reminder for when the time comes to content market again! And just like that, you’ll be constantly posting and not abandoning your site because you forgot how much time had passed since the last time you blogged.

# 4. Use the Right Tools

When you’re blogging (especially if you have limited time to do it), you need to be focused on getting it done right and don’t worry about other things. Make sure everything you may need to do it is at hand.

From an online dictionary so you don’t get stuck on getting the words off the tip of your tongue, to the right website builder so you can make quick edits in your blog or site and without codes. Having the right tools will make your content ride a lot easier!

# 5. Keep It Short and Simple

This goes without saying: it’s better to have a short and to the point post than a long, dragged out post that nobody will ever read (because, then, what’s the point of writing it?). Make sure you produce great information in condensed packages so you can spend less time writing and perfecting it!  BUT, no matter how busy you are, remember to proofread and create some quality posts!

# 6. Connect Socially through Feeds

Content marketing doesn’t stop at your site. You want people to share, read, comment and get your site to the top of the search pages for certain set of keywords. You need to reply to readers and create discussions around your posts.

This can be time consuming too! But, there are applications out there that can help you out. For example, you can link your site to apps (Google: social media feed app) that will automatically update your social media and RSS feeds so you can share your posts the second you publish them. Mind you, this isn’t an ideal situation, but it can get the job done when time is of the essence.


Yes, content is important but it’s extremely time consuming. By following these tips above you’ll get to fulfill your content needs and keep focused on getting your business to the top offline and online! Remember that these are all suggestions and that you can adapt to fit your busy lifestyle better.
