#1 Look for a Good Mentor

Of course, you may have the requisite knowledge to start a business. But, a business acumen is what would pay in the long run. Just the way your parents held your hand guiding you through the learning phases of your life during the initial days, you need a mentor to guide you through the intricate routes through the business world.
The parental figure should act as a guiding force. He will be the one who holds you accountable for your actions – whether right or wrong. A perfect mentor would be the one who has a good knowledge of your chosen track and has belief in your ideas. Someone who complements your intellectual acumen can best be your godfather.

#2 Plan Properly

Getting tangled into a whole lot of things can be quite common while starting a business. You are NOT working for someone, but starting a business on your own. As the sole proprietor, every single issue is your own. You have no one to point at.

That is precisely why the focus is quite important. The right focus can only be achieved with the right amount of planning. In fact, it would indeed be an ongoing challenge throughout your business life to keep the cash flow rich. However, it assumes even more importance when you are just starting off. A decent initial cash flow should be the prime concern when you plan to start a business.

#4 Do not Hire Employees in the Beginning

An employee is always a fixed business expense. It should be truer when you are making a beginning with your business. That is precisely why suggest not to hire employees right in the beginning.
Of course, you will need an employee or a couple of them in a later stage. But, during the initial days of your business, the uncertainty would be what can be an impediment. Instead, opt for partnerships or subcontracting certain services you cannot handle. You can enter into strategic partnership with the entrepreneurs or sub out the work to contractors and freelancers. You will keep your expenses under control with those steps.

#5 Be An Employee in Your Business

While at business, learn to be an employee yourself rather than having airs of being an owner. Ask a simple question in every sort of business decisions – how would you have viewed at the issue at hand if you were a shareholder or an employee yourself?
This should have more to do with the finances. You are the sole proprietor of your business should not mean you can mix up your personal finances with those of the business. #6 Be Productive

Toiling hard or working through 12 to 13 hours a day can be the prime reason that may sap your energy and render you unproductive. The best way to streamline your energy is to work for lesser hours. You can do things faster without getting frustrated if you are less stressed out and have a perfect work-life balance.

#7 Test Your Product or Services

No matter how good your product or service might be, you may not be in a position to guarantee the success. It can fail for any reasons. At times, the reasons can be quite strange that you might not have imagined in the wildest of your dreams.
Test your products in the market before launching it on a full scale. Launching only a few products and checking out the response can help you save enough money. In fact, we would advise opting for this strategy every time you launch a new product.

#8 Do not Fret If you Fail

Being prepared for failures is the essence of being a successful entrepreneur. Most of the capable individuals refrain from starting a business because they fear failure. If you are wary of failure, you may not be able to succeed.

Of course, looking ahead for success is good, but losing heart over failure will ruin your career as a businessman. Readiness for failure helps you prepare an alternative plan. Be ready for a couple of failures, but never lose your business.
