During his career, Bill Gates revolutionized personal computing with Microsoft’s Windows operating system. After stepping down as CEO of Microsoft, he dedicated his time and money to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which has financed developments in agriculture, healthcare, and education.
What does someone with so many accomplishments do? If you’re Bill Gates, your private life probably includes these five activities.
#1. Swims in Money, Scrooge McDuck-Style
Bill Gates has given more than $38 billion to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, but he’s still one of the richest people in the world. During some years, he is the richest person in the world. Give or take a few billion, he’s worth about $76 billion as of March 2014.
When you have that kind of money, you owe it to yourself and everyone else to swim in it just like Scrooge McDuck. Gates probably has a giant vault where he practices his backstroke in gold coins.
#2. Practices Battlefield 4 on PS4 Four Hours a Day
Microsoft might own the Xbox, but Gates prefers the PS4 because it has a better controller. That’s an important consideration when you dedicate yourself to four hours of Battlefield 4 daily. Gates has so much experience that he can take out 63 other players without getting shot once. He might even have a Battlefield Boot Camp where he trains other players to compete at near-expert levels.
#3. Takes Classes Online
Gates doesn’t think of himself as a college dropout in the literal sense, because he had enough credits to graduate when he left Harvard to start his own business. No matter how close he came, though, he never got his degree. With the advancements in technology for earning a degree online, Gates could potentially be finishing his schooling now or taking a few online classes here and there while laying out by his fancy pool. Because online degrees are said to be flexible and convenient, Gates is more than likely able to balance the demands of work and life while obtaining a degree all while hiding this secret from everyone, perhaps even his wife!
#4. Trolls Message Boards
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Gates’ interest in computers made him a target for bullies. His nerdy ways paid off, but he still has a lot of lingering resentment. What does a super-nerd with a lot of time on his hands do? He trolls the hell out of some message boards. He particularly enjoys bashing people who prefer Apple’s operating system to Windows. Really, though, he’s out to punk anyone.
Rumor has it that his comments have left some of the meanest middle school students in tears. You should see him tear into people who believe Bitcoin will become a legitimate currency in the near future. Also, if you’ve ever wondered why every decent article shared on Reddit gets a huge number of downvotes –well, you can just thank Bill.
#5. Doodles in the Margins of His Leonardo da Vinci Notebook
Gates spent nearly $31 million on the Codex Leicester, a manuscript handwritten and drawn by Leonardo da Vinci. Why would a technological guru spend so much money on a 500-year-old notebook? Gates says that he draws inspiration from da Vinci’s work. That was probably true at one time, when a younger version of Gates struggled to top his past accomplishments. By now, he has bested himself so many times that it isn’t even worth trying.
Instead, he spends time in his library, where he can quietly doodle in the margins of da Vinci’s work. Gates still has a deep appreciation for da Vinci’s genius, but he also recognizes that he has surpassed that Italian polymath. Gates makes crude drawings to show da Vinci who has the upper hand.
Gates spent much of his career looking forward to retirement. With a schedule that includes school, video games, and bashing pre-teens online, his days of retirement look pretty full. What would you do in secret if you were Gates? Would you focus on your charitable foundation, or stay up all night playing video games?
