On Thanksgiving, it’s not uncommon for diners to pause before they feast in order to share one thing for which they are thankful. This practice shouldn’t be restricted to your dinner table, though. In fact, Thanksgiving is the perfect time to tell your customers just how much you appreciate their business. Below are five ways to say “thanks” that will make a lasting impression.
# 1. The Good Old-Fashioned Way
Perhaps the most obvious way to say thanks to a customer is to, well, say “thanks.” Especially if your business is a phone-based one, why mess with what works? Look through your company’s phone database and pick out the loyal customers who deserve a heartfelt phone call this Thanksgiving.
Of course, there are creative ways to implement this thank-you calling blitz. Febreze made headlines in 2012 when the brand’s team thanked literally every single Facebook fan that had liked their page. With a staggering one-million-person following, the team set out to say “thank you” that many times in 52 hours on a livestream that fans could watch on their computers.
# 2. Send a Thank-You Card
In a world of e-mails, texts, and chat rooms, one way to break through the noise is with a piece of snail mail that says “thank you.” Hand-write each card and personalize the reasons why you are thankful for each customer. Setting aside as little as 15 minutes each day will give you ample time to pen notes in time for Thanksgiving.
# 3. Personally Respond on Social Media
When someone provides feedback on a business via social media, it gives the business valuable insight into what their clientele appreciates—and what they can do to improve. Most businesses simply cannot pay for this type of information, as valuable as it may be; for that reason, you should always respond personally and graciously to those who provide it. Make time this holiday season to express how much each and every customer’s opinion means to you.
# 4. Money Talks, Too
Whether you want to thank your customers or your social-media followers, one way to do so is with a discount, coupon, or other promotion that allows them to enjoy your products or services at a discounted rate. For larger companies with more widely-used products, this might be easy; a smaller, more specific brand — such as Xtrema cookware, which sells kitchenware— might have to find a more unique way to thank their customers in this way. Regardless, if a discount is a possibility in your business model, it can speak volumes.
# 5. And, of Course, Eat
The purpose of Thanksgiving is, of course, to reflect on the things for which you are thankful. Nevertheless, the Thanksgiving meal often gets the most fanfare. One way to combine your thank-yous with tradition is to plan a luncheon or dinner that shows your customers how appreciative you are of them. Like any business lunch, you and your fellow employees should maintain a professional level of decorum around your clients. With that in mind, a tasty meal may be just the way to show how grateful you are for someone and their business. So dig in.
