Google. The most used search engine on the web today. It dominates 65% of US searches and 90% of searches in the UK but are we, as small businesses, taking full advantage of what Google has to offer us? How many of the following do you use for your website?

Google Places

Google Places used to be known as Google Maps and enables you to create a business listing that displays your address, a link to your website (if you have one), and other details about your business such as your phone number, opening hours, videos, photos, special offers and more. It is very helpful for improving your Google visibility, especially in your local area.

Google Keyword Tool

Google’s  Keyword Tool enables you to build extensive, relevant keyword lists ( a list of words people type into the search engine when looking for a particular product or service)  that you can use in your website to improve your search engine optimization. You can generate keyword ideas, review the number of visitors based on each keyword and add keywords to your paid Google advertising.

Google Analytics

With Google Analytics you can measure the results of your online activities. For example you can discover the source of your visitors: did your site visitors come from search engines, display advertising, pay-per-click  efforts, e-mail marketing or other links.In addition you can track exactly what your visitors did when they visited your website.

Google Webmaster Tools

A great tool that will help improve your site’s visibility online. With Google’s Webmaster tools you can find any problems with your site such as dead links and pages not found. It can also show you other websites that link to yours.

Google Site Search

If you have a larger site Google site search enables you to put a Google search box on your website which in turn enables  prospective visitors and customers to find information instantly on your website

You Tube

Now owned by Google You tube is the place to upload your videos and drive visitors to your website.


Google’s Feedburner enables you to distribute information from your blog and statistics about your RSS Subscribers so you can analyze and optimize your blog posts.

Google’s help centre  providing help with Google products and tips to help you improve your website

As you can see Google provides a lot of resources to help you create an online presence that improves your site’s visibility and ranking in its search engine. Which ones are you going to start using today?
