    Hi Alex,

I found this post through several tweets in my Twitter stream, and after reading it I feel compelled to offer a bit of feedback.

    Firstly fair play for posting.

However, I don’t think the post lives up to the title. In fact, if it WAS a press release any editor worth his or her salt would simply bin it.

It’s not that the advice itself is bad per se… but the writing really isn’t up to scratch.

I wouldn’t normally comment on the standard of writing in a blog post… BUT, and there’s really no getting around this: a post offering writing advice, on press releases or anything else, has to be well written to be credible. Anything less does a disservice to the reader.

While I could work through the post dissecting it paragraph by paragraph I don’t feel that would be fair. But I would suggest is that maybe it would be a good idea to work through it yourself with a critical eye and ask where you could improve it.

I am recommending you who are interested in writing a perfect press release will take some time to think about the development of spreading your message with a “megaphone” as in the old days and instead having a conversation nowadays. Have you read Stefan Engeseth’s book, The Fall of PR & the Rise of Advertising? You could download it for free as a PDF on DetectiveMarketing.com.

I think in recent times to have any success with press releases you need to do a paid release where they are actually send to editors, and also have a very good title with relevant keywords so they immediately catch the attention of the said editors.
