Welcome back Fiona and thanks for putting this great online video resource together - definitely worth bookmarking and returning to again and again.

     Hey Fiona,

I ventured carefully into video in 2011 and found that after hearing your voice (and cringing) a few times, it then became normal. In turn, the videos became quite normal and the whole experience featured less cringing.

Video CVs are a great way to give a snippet of your personality to a potential employer and highlight your strengths. The fact that you can edit means you only show you at your best….

I think that people interact better with video. You can see events as if you were there and view people, products and places without actually being there. Its all part of the persuasive power and a valuable marketing tool.

What a great list of resources Fiona, thanks for researching and sharing.
Video is only one aspect of multi media and social media (even for business) it’s amazing it is so slow to take off (esp in Ireland!!)
I think what will happen, people will get into video out of necessity and the web will get full of “junk”. But for the rest of us who have been watching and listening to ourselves for a while now, we have the head start (I say that flippantly). It really is the last frontier of socially connecting with customers and followers, and business owners will be racing to join Toastmasters in an effort to rid themselves of on-screen nerves. Yet a new industry is born…
    Great article!

Thanks very much for your feedback,
    Christina.

You’re right about the cringe factor in hearing yourself, not
to mention seeing yourself on screen.
The next time we meet, I’ll tell you about the first time I had to do a
piece-to-camera for TV3 News.  It was
terrifying and I tried to block the producer from entering the edit suite to
view it in case he didn’t like it.
    (Fortunately, he did!)

I also endorse your thoughts on Video
CVs.  The competition for jobs is
so intense nowadays and the way to stand out is to do something
    innovative.  Showcasing one’s
personality is so important in terms of securing an interview.  In addition, presentation skills are
required in so many jobs now that it seems like a no-brainer to do a Video CV
    which showcases them.

I’m currently working with a fitness centre
so I was viewing videos by their competitors.  I came across a video demonstrating anti-gravity yoga.  I had never considered doing this kind
of yoga before, but the video showed me that it looks like something I would
    enjoy.  So this demonstrates that
video marketing works on even the most experienced video marketer!

Thanks again for commenting.  I learned from your insights.

    Best wishes,

    Fiona.

Thanks so much for your positive feedback,
    Elaine.

You make great points!  I think that people have a huge fear
factor when it comes to presenting on camera, which is a pity because there are
loads of techniques to overcome nerves and present effectively.

It may be the last frontier, but hopefully
Irish businesses will utilise online video because it’s a very powerful tool in
    every business’s social media ammunition.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.  I really appreciate it!

    Best wishes,

    Fiona.
