  • Hi Paula, I really like your advice about making measurement part of the negotiation when booking advertising, this makes a lot of sense and would take a lot of the risk out of advertising for businesses.    

  • I have to take out advertising for our holiday cottages business, Kilmore Cottage. Advertisers are pretty pushy on the phone, offering all kinds of ‘deals’ that are based on pure piffle, quoting website hits and other irrelevant stats in lieu of proper measurement tools. We record the source of every sale in our CRM, so we know what advertising is worth paying for. Good points from Paula as ever!

    Thanks for your comment, Helen. I do believe that measurement tools would be a good investment for offline media brands – there seems to be a culture of shying away from them in Ireland. As pressure builds on them from online marketing brands, I hope that they will see the light and start increasing their accountability.

    As it’s so “new” compared to offline, online advertising provides the benefit of measuring tools such as Click Through Rates, tracking codes, Cost per Click, Cost Per Mille etc. which, if monitored diligently will easily allow you to work out your ROI.

    I like the suggestion of adding a QR code in your offline advertising. Combined with a specific promotion ID and targeted page, you’re at least able to quantify the leads created by the print advertising.
